Dean's South of the Border

Dean's South of The Border on Urbanspoon In our search for authentic Tex-Mex, we stopped by Dean's. The atmosphere is great, service is friendly. They were offering a Country Fried Steak special, so we decided to try it out.

Ok, it's wasn't Babe's, but that's a really high standard.  You have to consider that we ordered Country Fried, not Chicken Fried steak at a Tex Mex restaurant in Florida.  To be fair - I'd have to consider the quality of the crab cakes I'd get at Babe's in Dallas.

With that said, Dean's delivered. It was crunchy, tasty and had a good cream gravy. With a side of mashed potatoes and corn, it was a good lunch.

We've been there before for the more traditional fare, and they do a bang-up job of Tex Mex.  I'm a fan of the enchiladas, and they have super good rice and beans.  My recommendation is to come on a nice day and enjoy the open-air patio.  It's worth the drive to Punta Gorda.  I'm tempted to try a burger next time.
